His Old Tricks

DW has had a little quirk ever since I can remember. He'll lose electrical contact at random times while he's doing whatever; basting in, quilting, digital work. 

When he does this during a digital stitch out, he misaligns himself and then all is chaos. Unless you know what you're doing. 

Here's where he 'choked' yesterday...

Hardly even started

This occurred after I left and while Jim was here by himself. He didn't know DW did this (or forgot about it) and hasn't a clue how to realign the motif within the area he needs to quilt. 

Today's lesson is repositioning and getting things back on track. And this is reason #412 why you can't just press GO and expect instances like this not to occur if you don't keep an eye on things. This is reason #413 why I prefer to do custom; I'm in control and not some computer. 

I worked on my book pattern at retreat and will head back up there after lunch. I need to get Jim going again and I need to start the piece on Bernie this morning before heading off to play with my friends.

Two finished quilts in one week that needed to be reloaded onto the frame...

Filling Gaps

This is why I really don't like doing digitized work. Despite my doing a drag and drop on each pass of this quilt, the last two rows separated themselves more than what my screen was showing and it was clearly visible. The customer had to bring it back for me to fix.

She had already bound the quilt so I had to load it as-is and fill in with swirls and pebbles; the same elements in the motif that went into it.

Guild up in Hale first thing this morning and then back here to get started on two new quilts. Yes, the two Tilda Samplers were finished late in the afternoon yesterday which is how we're seeing the above quilt on the frame.

After I got the above quilt fixed and the Tilda quilts billed and put away, I got the next two quilt tops out and started frame ironing backs. The first one is pretty small so I'll be starting on that when I return later. The other is flannel so the backing is taking a while to "dry" between each roll. 

Better Call Dorothy

These winds, again, are fierce! We have blinked twice so far this morning which is disconcerting. Hazel is going to the groomer this morning (if they don't call and tell me they're out of power) and I really would like to have jammed on Monicas quilt while she was away. 

I talked to Jim about this and my concern for all these high wind days. He said that was what we had insurance for. But if this machine goes down, then what? It'll take weeks to replace it (if there's even another one out there since they no longer make my model) and customers will have to wait even longer. I'm torn. I need to continue to work, but Mother Nature isn't making it easy on me.

Quilting Detail

Can you even see the circles in the border/sashings? She has four blocks of just printed negative space to fill. We talked about repeating the Dresden pattern during her consultation, so I digitized the actual Dresden block (none was available already) to have DW stitch them out. What do ya think?

And they both stitched out beautifully. I did get the first row in last night despite mom and I running the roads most of the mid day yesterday. It was good to get out and "play" with her for a while. I delivered two quilts to Bittersweet so not all the day was just fun and games.
