Goals Set...And Reached

I had set a goal to finish Linda's Flannel Stars yesterday, and frankly, didn't think it possible. But I hunkered down and only took a few breaks throughout the day and by 7:30, it was off the machine and ready for me to call her today.

There is an awful lot of negative space in there so I need to think about that while I'm working on the top section.

I did get the binding pieces sewn together for the Tula Butterfly and I'm frame ironing for the next one up on Marty; another Tilda Sampler. 

I'm trying to get a 'summer' version of my logo and here's what I snapped this morning as the sun was rising...

Does Anybody Listen/Read Any More?

I've had  several customers lately who have referred to the business as Quilting on the Lake instead of Quilting at the Lake. If I was quilting on the lake, I'd only be doing it in the winter because certainly water isn't going to hold up three long arm machines.

I also stress the "at" part when I introduce who is calling and all my literature clearly has "at" on them, yet checks are made out to "on" and when they talk about the business they always say "on" instead of "at".

I think grammar and the understanding of the English language is under educated in our school systems.

Same but different

This is actually the pic from Diana's quilt but I'm doing the same in Carla's except for the feathers. I'm doing bump-back feathers in Carla's where I did traditional feathers on Diana's. 

OMG I can't wait to get this stupid ass cast off. Two more days. Meanwhile, I still limp around with my toe. Storms expected today so the machine may be off for a bit if that happens. 

Merry New Year!

Welcome 2022. Wow, when I graduated 40 years ago, this seemed like a sci-fi situation when we'd be living in this century. 

I have been completely and utterly absent from the studio other than to let the dog out and to move stuff in and out of it during the infiltration of family and friends. What a fun weeks it's been, but now it's time to get back on track I think. 

Here is the only sewing/quilting related pic I have to share. This was made for my youngest grandson from a panel I picked up at Pieces...

I had to prop him up because he became a little top heavy after he was stuffed.

While we were chilling out together one evening, I was fiddling around on my phone and made this QR code for Quilting at the Lake. Your phones camera will "look" at it and you can then get to my web site. 

Quilting things I received for Christmas are actually for my customers. My brother and Jim both got me gift cards for Quilted Joy. Ben and Caleb purchased 16 spools of thread from there so I have a total of 67 new colors coming soon into the studio. I also received some fabric paint, some Inktense blocks, and some grid templates for marking customer quilts. Quilting at the lake bought Colette a new Panasonic cordless iron because well, it's Christmas and she's always wanted one. 

I hope you recover from the holidays fairly quickly and things get back to normal soon. I know I'm excited to see a new year come in because 2021 (in the world) wasn't so great. For me here in the studio...it was one of the best years ever. 

What. A. Weekend!

 The lake, on a whole, was very quiet this weekend despite it being a holiday. With the exception of our little curve of it, which was rockin' all weekend long. Games, music, fireworks, movies, campfires, kids, dogs, and the endless food. Needless to say, I slept in today. 

And I stitched approximately zero on the long arm and very (very) little in the studio on the sewing machines.

What you see while pulling in

Long arming the burger top this morning. They are predicting horrible storms for this afternoon (despite it being cloudless and rather mild this morning) and except for a load, I'm not sure how much more long arming I'll get done.

Working on the pincushions for the Sew by Row top and will commence with those later when (if) the storms hit like they're predicting.

All the party goers have left except three by now and I'll see them off as well.
